Weekend getaways
Shimla and Dalhousie are the only Himalayan destinations that genuinely work as a weekend, because both are within three to four hours of a railhead or airport. Manali, Dharamshala and anything beyond need four days minimum once travel time is counted honestly.

Counting travel honestly
A two-night trip to Manali is really one usable day, because the road from the nearest airport or overnight coach takes most of the first and last. Shimla survives this arithmetic; almost nothing further north does.

Can you do Manali in a weekend?
Not comfortably. Travel each way consumes most of two days, leaving one on the ground. Shimla is the realistic weekend hill station; Manali needs four days.
