Himachal from Mumbai

From Mumbai, the practical route to Himachal is a flight to Delhi or Chandigarh and a road transfer from there — about four hours to Shimla or nine to Manali. Rail from Mumbai takes roughly a day and a half each way, which is why most travellers from the west coast fly.

Chandigarh over Delhi

Flying into Chandigarh removes four to five hours of road at the start and end of the trip. It is worth checking even if the fare is slightly higher, because those hours come out of the holiday rather than out of the budget.

Questions people ask

What is the best way to reach Himachal from Mumbai?

Fly to Chandigarh where possible, or Delhi otherwise, then travel by road. Chandigarh saves several hours at both ends of the trip.
