Parvati Valley, Himachal
Kasol
Kasol is a riverside village in the Parvati Valley at about 1,580 metres, used as the base for Kheerganga, Tosh and Malana. It is a two to three day stop with cafés along the Parvati and short treks out of it, and it suits independent travellers more than families.

Kheerganga
The best-known walk from the valley: roughly 12 km from Barshaini to a hot spring at about 3,000 m, done as an overnight camp or a very long day. The trail is well travelled and does not need a guide in season, though it does need real shoes.
Tosh and Malana
Tosh is a village at the head of the valley reached by a short walk from the road, and it is where people go for the view rather than for activities. Malana is a separate culture with its own rules about what visitors may touch — read them before going, because they are taken seriously.
Who Kasol suits
Backpackers, walkers and people who want a base rather than a schedule. Families with young children and travellers wanting hotel comfort are generally better served by Manali, an hour and a half away.
Questions people ask
Is Kasol good for families?
It is manageable but not the obvious choice. Accommodation skews towards guesthouses and hostels, and the main activities are treks. Families usually get more out of Manali or Shimla and can visit Kasol as a day trip.
How long is the Kheerganga trek?
About 12 km one way from Barshaini, climbing to roughly 3,000 m. Four to five hours up for a reasonably fit walker. Most people camp at the top and return the following morning.

- Manali travel guideManali lies at about 2,050 metres on the Beas river and is the base for Solang Valley, Rohtang Pass and the Atal Tunnel to Lahaul. Three days is the usual stay. It is the busiest hill station in Himachal, so Old Manali and Vashisht are where people go to escape the main bazaar.
- Himalayan trekking packagesKashmir Great Lakes and Kinnaur Kailash are the two guided high-altitude treks run as fixed departures, both roughly a week on the trail. Shorter options such as Triund above McLeodganj and Kheerganga above Kasol need no guide and work as day or overnight walks.
- Budget Himachal tripThe cheapest way to do Himachal is a fixed-departure group tour in the shoulder months — March, early April, late September or October — rather than a private trip in May. Travelling outside the mid-May to mid-June peak is the single biggest saving available, usually larger than any hotel downgrade.
- How to reach KasolKasol is about 30 km from Bhuntar airport at Kullu and roughly 250 km from Chandigarh. Most travellers take an overnight coach from Delhi to Bhuntar and continue by shared taxi up the Parvati Valley, about an hour.
