Trekking

Kashmir Great Lakes and Kinnaur Kailash are the two guided high-altitude treks run as fixed departures, both roughly a week on the trail. Shorter options such as Triund above McLeodganj and Kheerganga above Kasol need no guide and work as day or overnight walks.

Guided high-altitude treks

Kashmir Great Lakes crosses a series of alpine lakes and passes over about a week and is generally rated moderate to difficult. Kinnaur Kailash is a shorter, steeper parikrama with a strong religious dimension. Both need genuine fitness and prior walking, not just enthusiasm.

Starting smaller

Triund is about 9 km from Galu Devi and Kheerganga about 12 km from Barshaini. Either makes a sensible test of whether a week-long trek is realistic, and both are worth doing in their own right.

Questions people ask
