Kufri
Kufri is a small resort settlement 16 km from Shimla at about 2,600 metres, visited mainly for snow between January and February and for the views towards the greater Himalaya. It is a half-day trip, and the horse rides to Mahasu Peak are the part visitors most often regret.

What to expect
In season the last stretch to Mahasu Peak is done on horseback along a churned, muddy track, and the animals are not always well kept. Plenty of visitors skip the ride and walk, or stop at the Green Valley viewpoint instead. Knowing this in advance is the difference between a good morning and a bad one.

Is Kufri worth visiting?
For snow in January and February, and for the Green Valley viewpoint, yes as a half day. Outside snow season it has less to offer than the drive suggests, and many itineraries substitute Naldehra or Mashobra.
